Building Singapore’s Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network

WSIS Lab last updated on Thursday, March 24, 2011 6:05 PM
Singapore - The Infocomm Development Authority of Singapore (IDA) has released in December 2010 interesting paper on "Building Singapore’s Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network- Towards a Next Generation Connected Nation."
Summary:
Singapore’s Next Generation Nationwide Broadband Network (Next Gen NBN) is a Fibre-to-Anywhere network project under the country’s Intelligent Nation 2015 (iN2015) ICT master plan. The Next Gen NBN will help to transform Singapore into an intelligent nation and a global city, powered by info-communications. This case study outlines the co-creation effort of the Singapore Government and the industry to design, build and operate the all-fibre network to every home, office and institution in the country.

Public Sector Involvement Critical in the Roll-out of Next Generation Broadband Infrastructure

Anna Polomska last updated on Tuesday, December 07, 2010 11:15 AM
KPMG International report : “The Roll-out of Next Generation Networks – Investing for 21st Century Connectivity” (2010), examines how nine countries (Australia, France, Japan, New Zealand, Singapore, South Korea, Sweden, the UK and the US.)  are applying various approaches to facilitate the deployment of broadband infrastructure so critical to the continued development of knowledge-based economies.

Among the key issues addressed in the report is what type of intervention governments should take – regulatory, market or financial – to speed implementation without disrupting the role of the private sector and hurting competition.

Broadband’s Impact on Economic Development: The Real Deal

Anna Polomska last updated on Friday, November 12, 2010 4:49 PM
Every two years, the International Economic Development Council (IEDC) and I team up to survey economic development professionals and others nationwide to learn how broadband is impacting economic development efforts. This year, 301 individuals participated, and their feedback has been particularly revealing.

The 2010 survey is “The Real Deal” as it digs beneath the hype surrounding broadband’s potential to influence local economies, and extracts data from those who deal with these issues daily. We also present for the first time the comments respondents offered to help implement broadband projects that produce economic development results.
