Final Briefing


The Final Briefing on the WSIS+10 High-Level Event will be held on 19 May 2014 in Room K at the ITU Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. The purpose of this briefing is to present in detail the Agenda that has been developed in collaboration with all stakeholders, building on the contributions made during the Open Consultation process that began in June 2013. The meeting will also inform all participants about the programme for the High-Level representatives, the Ministerial Round Table and other organizational details. Remoter participation will be available for this meeting.

The Fifth Physical Meeting of the Open Consultation on WSIS+10 High-Level Event will be held on 28-31 May 2014 in the WIPO Conference Room at the WIPO Headquarters in Geneva, Switzerland. Remote Participation will be an integral component of this meeting.

The WSIS+10 High-Level Event will be held on 10-13 June 2014 in Geneva Switzerland, a series of pre-event meetings will also be held on 9 June 2014. The event will be hosted by the ITU and will take place at the ITU Headquarters. Registration is necessary for WSIS Stakeholders intending to participate in this event

The preparatory process is an open and inclusive consultation among WSIS Stakeholders (governments, private sector, civil society, international organizations and relevant regional organizations) focused on: developing multistakeholder consensus on two draft Outcome Documents, to be developed during the open consultation process and submitted for consideration by the WSIS+10 High-Level Event; the thematic aspects and innovations on the format of the Event.


The Chair of the WSIS+10 MPP Process is the Russian Federation and the Vice Chairs are Egypt, Saudi Arabia and Switzerland. The process is structured in six phases as follows:

Governments and other stakeholders are doing a lot of efforts to build Information Society together and provide citizens with affordable services. With evolution of technologies, ICTs are playing more important and prominent role in all sectors. Case studies are proving excellent means to share information and lessons learnt among stakeholders. Reporting mechanism of case studies as WSIS Stocktaking was established in 2004 to track and share information on activities implemented by stakeholders to serve as the repository of best practices from all over the world. WSIS Stocktaking process is structured by WSIS Action Lines and driven by multi-stakeholder community from all over the world. WSIS Stocktaking Report 2014 will be released at the session followed by short presentation about stakeholders examples in achieving MDGs and WSIS goals. The session will also provide information about overview of activities implemented globally and trends identified for 10 years period based on reporting submitted by stakeholders to the WSIS Stocktaking Process. Invited speakers will demonstrate 10 years achievements in WSIS and highlight case studies to public about how certain projects could be replicated in other countries.

The Partnership on measuring ICT for development will be celebrating it's 10 Year anniversary during the WSIS+10 High-Level Event.

The Partnership on measuring ICT for development, under the leadership of ITU is currently preparing a final quantitative assessment report, which will analyze and discuss the achievements made on each one of the ten WSIS targets. The report will be launched at the WSIS+10 high-level event.

ITU Telecom World Young Innovators Competition

The first challenge of The ITU Telecom World Young Innovators Competition 2014 has been announced. The challenge, sponsored by Ooredoo, is looking for the most promising tech start-ups inspiring the creation, aggregation or digitization of dynamic local content, particularly in non-Latin scripts. The challenge offers 18-30 year old entrepreneurs the chance to win up to USD 10,000 in seed funding, take part in workshops on entrepreneurial skills, opportunities to meet and network with leading ICT players, and to showcase their projects at ITU Telecom World, December 7-10 in Doha, Qatar.
