Outcome of the Third Physical Meeting: WSIS+10 MPP Timeline and Way Forward


The third physical meeting of the Multistakeholder Preparatory Platform (MPP-WSIS+10) (www.wsis.org/review/mpp) was held on 17 and 18 February 2014, in the ITU Headquarters, as part of the fourth phase of the six phase WSIS+10 High-Level Event Open Consultation process. The purpose of this meeting was to conduct the first reading of the remaining proposals, proposals pending the 1st reading since the MPP meeting in December, for the first drafts of the WSIS+10 Statement on the Implementation on WSIS Outcomes & the WSIS+10 Vision for WSIS Beyond 2015.


More than 140 participants from 70 Countries participated in total in the meeting, in a remote and physical manner. All WSIS Stakeholders, that is, governments, private sector, civil society and international organizations took active part in the meeting.


The meeting conducted the first reading of the remaining proposals, proposals pending since the MPP meeting in December, for the first drafts including compilations reflecting the comments received by WSIS Stakeholders from 19th December 2013 to 24th January 2014. The Secretary-General of the ITU, Dr. Hamadoun Touré, informed all the participants through his opening remarks that it is proposed to hold the WSIS+10 High-level Event on 10 to 13 June 2014 at the ITU Headquarters in Geneva, he also added that the Fourth Physical Meeting of the WSIS+10 MPP will be held on 14 to 17 April 2014 at the ITU Headquarters, Geneva and the Fifth Physical Meeting of the WSIS+10 MPP will be held from 28 to 31 May 2014 in Egypt (venue to be confirmed).


The meeting noted the following deadlines, dates and agreed for the way forward:

Phase Five


Fourth Physical Meeting, 14-17 April 2014, ITU Headquarters, Geneva


Please note that based on several requests from WSIS Stakeholders the fourth physical meeting of the WSIS+10 High-Level Event has been shortened to 4 days. Consequently the final dates of the forth physical meeting are 14-17 April 2014 and the working hours of the meeting have been extended in order to ensure sufficient time for accomplishing the tasks foreseen for this meeting. Proposed working hours are as follows 9:00-13:00 / 14:30-18:00 / 19:00-21:00. Please note that this meeting will be held in the ITU Headquarters, Geneva
