Outcomes and Analysis of the Open Consultation Process

Open Consultation Phase VI: Final brief meeting


The final brief meeting of the Open Consultation Process will be held on Wednesday 10 May 2017, 15:00–18:00 in Room A at the ITU Headquarters, Geneva, Switzerland. Remote participation facilities will be available for this meeting.

High-Level Track Facilitators (HLTF)


The HLTFs will facilitate the High-Level Policy Sessions on the 13th and 14th of June as part of the High-Level Track of the WSIS Forum 2017. Major Stakeholder Coordination Mechanisms following the WSIS Process were invited to identify and nominate HLTFs for the WSIS Forum 2017. Each stakeholder type was invited to launch an Open Call to identify HLTFs to represent their respective communities. The list of High-Level Track Facilitators identified is available on the WSIS Forum 2017 website.

WSIS Prizes 2017

345 ICT success stories from around the world were nominated for the Online Voting Phase (30 March – 30 April) following a comprehensive review by the Expert Group of 467 submitted projects submitted by the WSIS Stakeholder community. The sixth edition of the WSIS Prize contest set a new record of global multistakeholder engagement in implementation of WSIS Action Lines for SDGs.




Stakeholders are invited to vote for their favorite success stories from around the world at the WSIS Prizes 2017 website. Online voting started 30 March 2017 and will end 30 April 2017. All those who have submitted their projects for this year’s contest are encouraged to follow the process carefully and to encourage their networks to join this global initiative, including preparations for the online voting campaigns for their respective projects.


Based on the results, winning projects will be selected by the Expert Group from the five projects which have received the most votes.




The winners will be presented with an award at the WSIS Prizes ceremony during the WSIS Forum 2017, 12-16 June 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland. At the same occasion, 72 WSIS Prize 2017 Champions (first four runner-up projects in each category) will be recognized during the special ceremony dedicated to their achievements.


WSIS Stocktaking

More than 600 ICT-related projects from around the world were submitted for the WSIS Stocktaking Report 2017 by the WSIS Stakeholder community. The ninth edition of the WSIS Stocktaking set a new record of global multistakeholder engagement in implementation of WSIS Action Lines for SDGs. The Report will be presented during the WSIS Forum 2017, 12-16 June 2017 in Geneva, Switzerland. At the same occasion, a Knowledge café will be dedicated to presentation of the results of this year’s WSIS Stocktaking.


Since the WSIS Stocktaking Process was established, eight editions of Global WSIS Stocktaking reports have been published, providing an overall picture of progress and an insight into latest WSIS-related activities. The ninth report will focus on contributions by stakeholders worldwide to WSIS and Sustainable Development Goals. This Report seeks to provide key findings on emerging trends in the development of the information society, and references major activities being implemented in the eighteen areas covered by the eleven WSIS action lines and seventeen SDGs.


WSIS Stocktaking Platform welcomed more 50,000 new stakeholders since January, reaching overall membership at the level of 300,000 stakeholders coming from more than 150 countries.

Hackathon Hack for Health


As a continuation of the discussions initiated at WSIS Forum 2016, a Hackathon on ICTs for SDGs focusing on e-health will be held at WSIS Forum 2017. We invite all interested coders to participate in the Hackathon Hack for Health.


Goal/Purpose

  • Address and support global health solutions focused on middle-to lower income countries

    • Address common environmental issues that impact health and wellness

    • Provide information and education to address health awareness

    • Encourage positive behavior change that optimizes health and wellness

  • Develop actionable technology-enabled solutions


Recruitment Criteria

  • The WSIS Hack for Health is open to individuals pursuing an undergraduate or a post-graduate degrees with specific emphasis on health, science, computer science, design, engineering, ICT and other related fields.

  • Teams should consist of a minimum of three people and maximum of seven people.

  • Teams should promote gender equality.

  • As possible, the teams should encompass both technical and functional competencies.

  • Age 18–35

Pursuing a first partnership in 2016, WSIS and World VR Forum join forces to be at the forefront of Virtual Reality for advancing development. A shiny new Virtual Reality Track will held at the WSIS Forum 2017 bringing together high-level personalities, world class VR experience and a very special focus on education.


TEDxGeneva at WSIS Forum 2017


After a successful debut at WSIS Forum 2016, we are pleased to announce that TEDxGeneva will continue to partner with ITU, hosting another event during WSIS Forum 2017.


TEDxGeneva 2017 prioritizes a humanistic approach, providing a voice to innovators, entrepreneurs, determined people influencing policies and practices, today. This year’s event will take place on the 12th June 2017.

UNCTAD E-Commerce Week



UNCTAD E-Commerce Week, 24 to 28 April, Palais des Nations, Geneva


E-commerce is part of the WSIS Action Line C7 on ICT applications, and is rapidly transforming the way in which enterprises are interacting with each other, consumers and governments. The third edition of UNCTAD's E-Commerce Week, with the theme "Towards Inclusive E-Commerce", will offer a platform for participating stakeholders to discuss key challenges and opportunities related to e-commerce and define concrete actions towards more inclusive trade, global benefits and sustainable development in line with the Sustainable Development Goals.


Like WSIS, the UNCTAD E-Commerce Week is open to a wide variety of stakeholders from Government, private sector, academia, civil society, and youth.
