ITU-R WP 5D Third Workshop on IMT-Advanced
Focussed on Candidate Technologies and Evaluation
Thursday 15 October 2009
8:30 – 12:40 hours
Two previous workshops on IMT-Advanced in 2007 and 2008 have addressed the process, requirements, and timeframes for IMT-Advanced as well as views from industry on the expected developments on advanced radio interface technology. At this point in the timeline of IMT-Advanced, ITU-R is preparing to receive the candidate technology proposal submissions following the invitation in Circular Letter 5/LCCE/2 (7 March 2008) and its addenda.
For the October 2009 meeting No. 6 of WP 5D, it is expected that technology candidates will be submitted according to the defined IMT-Advanced process. To provide the best opportunity for WP 5D and the external evaluation groups to have a better understanding of the technology candidates, a workshop is planned. In this educational and information-sharing workshop the technology candidates will have an opportunity to 1) provide presentations on their technology, and 2) provide insight and explanations of their self-evaluations of their technology.
In addition, evaluation groups that have registered with the ITU-R in response to Circular Letter 5/LCCE/2 will be given an opportunity to provide information on their respective evaluation group and to outline their plans with regard to evaluation activities.
The technology candidate proponents and evaluation groups will also be able to have representatives attend the WP 5D meeting No. 6 as invited observers, in accordance with the provisions of Resolution ITU-R 9-3.
This workshop supports the steps of the IMT-Advanced process with regard to review and coordination of evaluation groups activities, along with consensus building, and promotes information sharing and dialog among ITU-R WP 5D, the proponents and the evaluation groups.
Audience: WP 5D delegates, candidate technology proponents, registered evaluation groups.
Presentation Deadlines: Presentations and supporting materials for this workshop should be sent to the ITU-R Study Group 5 Counsellor (Mr Colin Langtry) before 16:00 hours UTC on 7 October 2009. This is the same cut-off date established for inputs to the October WP 5D meeting. Presentations may refer to specific inputs to the WP 5D October meeting to avoid duplication of supporting materials.
Language: The workshop will be conducted in English only.
A separate registration for the workshop is not required for participants of the WP 5D October 2009 meeting.
Technology proponents and evaluation group members who are not Sector Members/Associates of Study Group 5 should contact Colin Langtry, the Counsellor of Study Group 5, to register for the Workshop and to participate as an observer at the Working Party 5D meeting (email@example.com).
