Information and Communication Technologies (ICTs) have transformed modern lifestyles and play economic development.ICTs provide real time communications, borderless and almost unlimited access range of innovative services. At the same time, their misuse and their vulnerabilities and have also created new threats and ever-growing challenges across national borders for all countries.
As sole facilitator for WSIS Action Line C.5 "Building Confidence and Security in the use of ICTs", World leaders have entrusted ITU to facilitate the coordination of a global response to these challenges and threats. That is why on 17 May 2007, I launched the Global Cybersecurity Agenda (GCA) as the framework for international cooperation with the objective of building synergies and engaging all relevant stakeholders in our collective efforts to build a more secure and safer information society for all.
Knowing what others are doing is vital for collaboration and cooperation. The Cybersecurity Gateway enables all stakeholders to share information about their initiatives and thus promote international cooperation.
I am convinced that working together, we can enhance confidence and security in the use of ICTs.
